CM moots legal actions against social media

IMPHAL, February 17: The state government has taken strong exception of the attempt to malign Chief Minister Okram Ibobi by uploading a manipulated and truncated interview given to ANI in the social media.

This was stated in a statement from the secretary to the CM which also says that in the interview the CM outlined his views on the assault of people from the North East region and has categorically condemned the act of assault.

“The uploaded truncated version of the complete interview shows the CM’s views in a distorted form, which has received negative reactions. Such a malicious act of uploading a distorted version is to mislead the people with a vested interest to create disharmony among the people. The views expressed by the CM have been misrepresented with an attempt to tarnish his image. Many individuals and political parties have reacted without viewing and studying the full interview” says the statement from the CM’s secretary.

It further asked everyone to recall that the CM visited a victim of sexual assault on Feb 10 at the AIIMS and had condemned the recent incidents in strongest terms by emphasizing that such attacks on the people from the region needed to be condemned by the entire nation.

A copy of the letter handed over to Home Minsiter Sushil Kumar Shinde on Feb 9 after the CM meet him was also delivered to various media houses in the state to show the CM’s point of view regarding the incidents of violence, sexual assault and molestation against people from the region.

The statement also mentioned that the government is also planning to initiate legal proceedings against the social media.
