IMPHAL, February 6: The violence which had engulfed the state in 2001 in the wake of a single clause included in the cease-fire agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the then BJP led government at the centre resulting in the destruction of government department offices, state Legislative Assembly building among others are still fresh in the minds of the people.

This was stated by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, president, Gaikhangam during a one-day political conference of the 21 Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee held today at the residence of the local MLA RK Anand at Kwakheithel Akham Leikai.

Continuing his speech, he said instead of making allegations against the Congress, it would be better if the BJP could take some time for themselves and make a complete changeover so that people may start accepting them.

While in government some ten years back, the BJP had never even once considered the well-being of the people of the state, he asserted and added that development is visible in the state now only after the Congress came to power both at the centre and the state.

Congress had always stood for the people and will continue to do so, he asserted.

He further appealed to the party workers to work hard so that the party continues to win the people.

The forming of non-Congress alliance shows the weaknesses of the parties and it could never be a threat to the party, he said.

The Congress has implemented several schemes for the public including NREGS, Right to Education, Right to Information, etc, he observed.

The Lokayukta Act which has been passed in other states will be passed in the state during the coming state Assembly session, he continued.

Such schemes are taken up for the welfare of the public; however, other political parties have been busy declaring the Congress to be silent to the concerns of the public, he said.

Continuing with his speech, he said that such political conference as today’s have been organised to encourage a firm relationship between the government and the public.

Such platform will give the government on what ails the public, he said.

Local MLA RK Anand said he will also work for the development of the state and his constituency.
