Development of Postal Services and Tourism correlated, says philatelist

IMPHAL, February 6: The 2nd district level philately exhibition, organised by the Director of Postal Services, started on Thursday at Imphal Head Post Office Complex. It will continue till February 9.

Freelance consultant and senior philatelist Dr Leban Serto, medical officer Dr RK Kapan, a philatelist, and director of the Manipur Postal Services T Mang Min Thang also the chairman of the Organising Committee, attended the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

“Philately means the study and collection of stamps. Today’s children are least interested in stamp collection. So school and college authorities may introduce students to stamp collection as a hobby and also provide awareness about it so that philatelic exercises among them may be activated,” said Dr. Serto in his speech.

He appreciated the department of postal for organising the exhibition and further appealed to continue such exhibition in the future as younger generation can learn lessons from those stamp. He added that every stamp has a history of its own – it may be of political, economic and social condition of the particular stamp.

Continuing that if postal service is developed in the state then tourism sector will also develop in the state, he stressed that tourism wouldn’t develop without the development of postal services while also appealing for a chamber in the Department of Post for philatelic exercise.
