Gun fight at Tupul railway construction site

IMPHAL, February 6: Suspected Naga underground cadres armed with sophisticated weapons fired at the Tupul railway line construction site, forcing the security personnel to reiterate, after midnight during the intervening night of February 5-6 around 12.18 am.

After exchanging fire for few minutes, the suspected militants slip away taking advantage of the darkness, informed a source said a reliable source.

Officials of the company involved in the railway line construction at the site UANMAX INFRA Ltd, including its project manager Sanjeev and labours stay at the site, with 32 personnel of the 6th India Reserve Battalion led by a subedar providing security. The site is just 10 kms north-west of Noney Police Station.

Sources said although there was no casualty on the side of the IRB, the UGs could have suffered some.

Following the incident, the camp commander of the group, subedar 6th IRB has submitted a formal report to the Noney police station, and the latter has also registered a formal case.
