IFM urges political parties to protect arable land

IMPHAL, February 22: The president of the Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) Thounaojam Iboyaima has today urged during a press meet to all the political parties of Manipur to express their concern on the issue of increasingly diminishing arable and agriculture land of the state of Manipur due to construction of various structures such as government office buildings, private schools, residential spaces, brick farms etc.

He further said that IFM will submit ultimatum to all the political parties of national, regional and local operating in the state demanding them to express their concern on this alarming issue.

He further added that the state leadership of the various national political parties are expected to inform their national leaders about the arable land issue.

A copy of the ultimatum was also distributed to the media persons present in the press meet.

In this connection, IFM had also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India citing five points such as “land us policy must be immediately framed and implemented in the state of Manipur, land acquisition Act should be farmers friendly and should ensure their proprietary rights even after acquisition, all arable and agriculture land should be protected and preserved, protect and preserve Reserve Forest Areas including valley area in Manipur since the passing of the Manipur State Durbar Act, 1935 and reinstate the land so diverted and acquired in original position” which were recommended by the panel discussion held at Hotel Anand Continental, Imphal, Iboyaima said and added that the panel discussion was the outcome of a seminar organised on the topic “Protection of Agriculture Land in Manipur”.
