Irawat gallery opened

IMPHAL, February 8: The Irawat People’s Museum Gallery was opened today at Lokchao Shantipur, Sanjenbam, in Imphal east district.

The gallery is being constructed where the Red Guard Camp was once present.

During the function, a book titled “Malem Kansi Akoibagi Shaktam Kansi” authored by L Sotinkumar was also released.

L Sotinkumar, general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur state committee, Ksh Santa, secretary of Centre for Indian Trade Union, Manipur state committee, Kh Gyaneshwor, president, Trade Union Coordination Committee, Manipur state, Jugol Sai, editor Meeyam were the presidium members respectively.

During the function, L Sotinkumar mentioned that the communist underground Red Guard Camp used to camp here from 1940 – 51, however the communists were pushed aside from the mainstream.

In order to remember those communists, Irawat People’s Museum Gallery is constructed here in which historical and other related materials of communist movement will be displayed and in course of time, an eco-park will soon come up here, Sotin said and further added that a community hall will also be construct soon.

Symposium, seminar and workshop on the life and works of Irawat and communist movement will be organised here from time to time, he said and adding.
