KCP (MC) Nongdrenkhomba alleges AR highhandedness

IMPHAL, Feb 5: The 9 Assam Rifles stationed at Moreh had on February 4 arrested Ninthoujam Jiten, home secy of KCP (MC) Nongdrenkhomba group along with his wife, Priya at about 10.30 am from Kondong Lairembi, Moreh, said a press statement of the group. The said group is under peace talk process with the Govt of India and Govt of Manipur.

According to the statement signed by its commander in chief Nongdrenkhongba, there were no women police or any woman when Priya was arrested by troops of 9

Assam Rifles and taken to their camp at Moreh and later released near the police station.

The whereabouts of the husband is however, unknown, informed the statement.

It asserted that the incident is in gross violation of any norm of the world that a woman has been arrested without the presence of woman police.

The Assam Rifles have neither handed over Jiten to the police, nor released him so far even after a lapse of more than 40 hours, it further continued.

This is in gross violation of any norm for operations and legal ruling which lay down that a person apprehended by the Army should be handed over to the nearest police station and produced before a court within 24 hours, it continued.

This kind of high handedness by 9 Assam Rifles is a blatant violation of law of the land and also a discouragement to the people who have entered the peace process with the Govt, it said.
