Man injured in low intensity bomb blast

IMPHAL February 28: A low-intensity improvised explosive device bomb blast occurred around 7 am at Langathabal Kunja under Singjamei Police Station on Friday. Splinters hit a civilian on his moustache.

It was suspected to be triggered through a timer.

The incident happened on the western side of the National Highway number 2 at Langthabal Kunja when the IED blast occurred injuring a 28-year-old man identified as Sorokhaibam Romen, son of Mani of Chajing Maning leikai, on his moustache by the splinters of the bomb.

He was coming towards Imphal from Lilong in an autorickshaw along with four other passengers on board. However, his condition is stated to be not critical.

Soon after the incident, Sub Divisional police Officer, N Modhunimai of the Singjamei Police Station and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Imphal West Commando Operation, S Ibomcha rushed to the spot and inspected the site of the blast.

According to a reliable source, the bomb might have been placed to attack the personnel of 40 Assam Rifles posted at Canchipur as AR personnel frequented the route on a daily basis. The blast occurred  one Kilometre away from  their road opening party.
