IMPHAL, February 28: The state General Administration Department is considering to make Hotel Classic run the canteen of the Manipur Bhavan at Chanakyapuri, Delhi, according to Minister Phungjathang Tonsing.
In the calling attention today, opposition MLA L Ibomcha criticized about the situation of the Manipur Bhavan at Delhi.He said that it is in a deplorable situation due to failure to depute a full fledged commissioner to look after the Bhavan affairs , the MLA in the calling attending motion drew the attention of the House on the mismanagement of Manipur Bhavan further.
He said that the Bhavan in Delhi is run by a non-local. The hospitality tendered to visiting Manipuri is lacking and even MLAs are treated like a ordinary tenant. But in comparison to other northeast States like Tripura Mizoram etc has neat and hygienic bhavans except for ours, he said.
He further mentioned that the canteen sells at an exorbitant rate for edible items. The equality of the food is such that the Manipuris go to eat from other bhavans and this was not like this some time back. The asserted that the main problem is due to lack of fully fledged Residential Commissioner and Deputy Residential Commissioner and other staff. Localites should be deputed as staff to present a cordial atmosphere and for better hospitality, he said.
In response, minister Phungjathang Tonshing said that the government is trying to improve the bhavan but has failed to do so due to acute financial problems. He further observed that the documents of the concerned staff are not found in Manipur Bhavan and the other Bir Tikendrajit House of Manipur. The State government is considering recruitment of the bhavan staff from Manipur only. For the canteen, the state is considering to offer the Classic Hotel to run the canteen so that it can run smoothly and hygienically.
But till now, there is no concrete resolve for it. However, the transformer located near the bhavan will be removed from the site.
