NRDW awareness week held in Chandel

CHANDEL, February 13: District Water and Sanitation Committee, Chandel District in association with the Christian Social Development Orgranisation (CSDO) Chandel organized a one day district level workshop on the observation of “National Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week” at DRDA Training Hall, DC Office Complex, Chandel today.

Th Chittaranjan Singh, DC Chandel attended the programme as the chief guest; L Ibomcha Singh, superintending engineer, R-1 PHED, Manipur as functional president; while Dr Kesho Singh Moirangthem, district malaria officer and S Dhana Singh, range officer, District Forest Office Chandel as the guests of honour and resource persons of the program respectively.

Executive engineer PHED Chandel, A Nikunja Singh, who is also the member secretary of the District Water and Sanitation Committee, Chandel district, while addressing the keynote, highlighted the overview of National Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week and the Role of Village Water and Sanitation Committee in Water Supply Management.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, deputy commissioner of Chandel, Th Chittaranjan Singh, who is also the chairman of the district water and sanitation committee Chandel district said that, water is one of the basic needs of human being.

And all the civilization in olden days were started by the banks of a river which show that water is required for existence of human being.

However, now-a-days, it is a big source of illness and diseases due to contamination of water.

Therefore, to ensure safe drinking water is necessary for a healthy living, he added.

Superintending engineer Rural-1, PHED, Manipur, L Ibomcha Singh in his presidential speech presented a power point on the revised guidelines of National Rural Drinking Water programs 2013.

Following a technical session wherein resource persons, Dr Kesho Singh Moirangthem, district malaria officer Chandel who stress on the topic “Health aspects of water and sanitary related diseases and Dhana Singh, range officer, District Forest Office Chandel, speaking on the importance of Forest Conservation in relation with water conservation, interaction, discussion and question hour was held.

As part of its recommendations, essay writing on the topic ‘Importance of safe drinking water and value of sanitation’ would be held across the district in five centres ie, district head quarter Chandel, Chakpikarong, Pallel and Moreh on February 18 at 11.00 am.
