One crore poppy plants destroyed in Senapati

IMPHAL, February 14: The Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur in co-ordination with NCB, Imphal Sub zone and Senapati District police have destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Somphung,Nepali Isle and Denglen areas of Molkon hill range,under Saikhul Police Station, on 12 February in a special operation. More than one crore poppy plants cultivated in 105 acres of land were destroyed.

This was stated in a press release from SP (NAB) S Gautam Singh also the public relation officer of the Manipur Police Department.

It further stated that the special operation resulted in destruction of poppy plants before their harvesting resulting in the prevention of extraction of large quantity of poppy plants which can be later processed to convert into heroin, a narcotic drug under ND& PS Act, 1985. Three separate cases have been registered at NAB/PS for investigation.
