IMPHAL, February 12: Ever since taking charge of the state Home department, my main effort has been to make the department a people friendly department. Even if the minimum requirements of the police personnel cannot be met all at a time, steps to meet them in phases have already been taken up. In another two/three months, around 10 police stations/out posts will be inaugurated and handed over to the public.
This was stated by the state deputy chief minister and Home minister Gaikhangam while speaking to media persons during a trip to look into the necessities of the state police personnel deployed in 15 posts spread across Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
He said he has conducted three prior such visits before today’s inspection visit.
On top of being a border state, Manipur is also affected by several other problems including insurgency, all the more the financial status remains unfulfilling, he said.
Inspite of all these, the state police whose strength is not even its posted strength, has been helping the people, he said before adding the state police personnel need to be congratulated and lauded.
However, there are times when certain personnel have been found behaving in an unwanted manner, and in order to counter such behaviour, steps will be taken up to make the department a disciplined force, the state Home minister informed the media persons.
Visiting the personnel in their faraway post and meeting them is infact an encouragement for them, he said.
Certain disappointments were however found during today’s visit, he said.
Elaborating further, the Home minister asserted construction of the police stations are to be undertaken by the Manipur Police Housing Corporation, after the needed fund has been deposited.
However, it was found that some of the police stations have been constructed as departmental work, which has resulted not only in the non-maintenance of quality in the construction, but the stations had been handed over even before construction is been completed, he lamented.
The matter has to be taken up before the chief minister and discuss on how to review the constructions, he said.
The security posts inspected by the dy CM led team are Wangoi Police Station, Mayang Imphal Police Station, Arong Nongmaikhong Police Out Post, Sekmaijin Police Out Post, Komlakhong Police Out Post, Hiyanglam Police Station, Lamgmeidong VDF Post, Kakching Lamkhai Out Post, Wangoo Lamkhai Police Out Post, Wangoo Police Station, Kumbi Police Station, Moirang Police Station, Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station, Kumbi Leingangtabi VDF post, Kakching Khunou Police Out Post and Naranseina 2nd IRB bn hq complex.
At the Kakching Lamkhai Out Post, it was found that the plaster work had not been done and the doors and windows were also missing.
The brick wall constructed around the out post was found to be supported by bamboo stalks.
The brick wall was constructed on only three sides of the out post.
At the Naranseina 2nf IRB Bn Hq, the tin foil covering the barracks and the doors and windows were found missing and broken.
