URF calls general strike during Modi visit

IMPHAL, February 4: Boycotting the February 8 proposed visit of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to the state, the anti-talks faction of the URF has called a general strike from 5am to 4pm of the said day.

The arrival of the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi should be boycotted and condemned by the people of Manipur, said a statement of the publicity secretary, URF Sanajaoba Meitei.

“Manipur under the colonial rule of India has suffered, starved, struggled for more than 65 years. Lakhs of Indian Army have been deployed in the name of Militancy/insurgency, killed thousands and thousands of innocent people,” it said.

Further according to the statement, BJP being the main opposition party at the centre is equally responsible for the present scenario of Manipur.

It said, the so-called leaders who support the political parties are also responsible for “colonialism in Manipur.”

The United Revolutionary Front wholly condemned any political party of India and their leaders.

It has further said that the visit of Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat will be boycotted and as such a general strike from 5am to 4pm has been called on the said day.

Narendra Modi the C.M of Gujarat and his journey to our state Manipur on dated 08/02/2014 shall be boycotted and we therefore called for General Strike from 5 A.M to 4 P.M on this said day. Essential services like marriage, hospital service, fire service, water supply, electricity, print and electronic media will be exempted from the purview of the strike, it said.

Appealing to the people to stay indoor on the said day, those who ignored are responsible for any loss happen to themselves, it asserted.

The outfit further said, “Lastly we are grateful to the people of Manipur and North East for boycotting the Republic Day….”
