IMPHAL, February 6: The Ministry of Home Affairs has excluded Manipur from the imposition of the Protected Area Permit system under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Orders, 1958 for a period of two years with effect from January 1. However, the relaxation of the PAP regime doesn’t extend to foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Pakistan and China.

All foreign nationals visiting the state must register themselves with the Superintendant of Police (CID/SB), designated as Foreigners Registration Officer(FRO) of the state, within 24 hours of their arrival, a press release from Principal Secretary (Home) Dr.J.Suresh Babu stated.

Furthermore, all Myanmar nationals are excluded from the PAP restrictions initially for a period of one year with effect from January 1 last. They have to register themselves like other foreign nationals visiting the state with the FRO within 24 hours of their arrival in the state or district they are visiting. A visa on arrival facility has been provided to all Myanmar nationals visiting the country from any of the designated airports. However, Myanmar nationals are exempted from compulsory registration if they are passing the state in transit, the press release added.
