36-hour-bandh affects commuters along NH-37

JIRIBAM, March 3: The imposition of a 36-hour long bandh starting from the might night of March 3 along national highway 37 by the Ngamkhei Kanba Lup (NKL) Jiribam has affected commuters along the highway.

On the first day of the blockade, no vehicle were seen plying along the highway.

Bandh supporters stoned several vehicles including those of the Railway Construction Company on the first day.

A private trucks bearing registration number SK 03 D0/276 and TR 05/1542 were also stoned at Tousem sub division around 12:30 pm.

In the meantime, a leader of the NKL has appealed to Manipur Rifles not to carry passengers in their vehicles.

He further questioned them whether they could bear the responsibility rising out of their act.

He also said that there is no communal tinge in the bandh as it has been compelled by government’s apathy to their demand.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the bandh has been imposed along the Imphal Jiri stretch of national highway 37 demanding rectification of the gazette notification issued by the then principal secretary PC Lawmkunga.
