CCpur police burns fermented yeast

LAMKA, March 25: The Churachandpur Police led by its officer in charge MA Salam and OC of Excise, Tawna today burnt fermented yeast which is used in the brewing of the local wine today.

The fermented yeast locally known as ‘Tol’ worth approx. Rs 1000 was burnt at the CCpur PS in the presence of media persons.

A flying squad of the police intercepted two women carrying the fermented yeast at Peace Ground, Tuibuang CCpur around 11:30am today in a Maruti Van bearing registration number AS 01V 8514.

The women have been identified as Ningthoujam Thoibi, 28, wife of N Ibocha Singh and Angom O Mama Devi, 56, wife of A Anao Singh both of Phaeiyang, Chingkhonou Village of Imphal West.

The police have filed an FIR and it was found during interrogation that this is not the first time that the two have brought in fermented yeast to the town.

Meanwhile, around 9:30 pm last night the police under the officer-in-charge and  ASI Gaikhanngam arrested a man with a missing Hero Honda Activa (grey color) bearing registration number MN01 2081 from the Red Cross Road.

Police identified the man as Thangminlien Suantak, 26, son of Thangchinmang Suantak of Leijang Village of Churachandpur District

OC CCpur MA Salam has also said that the police have recovered the RC book from the owner’s residence. The owner is identified as Gouneipau, son of Paukholien of New Lamka.

Following official identification, the owner collected his moped from the police this morning, said OC CCpur MA Salam.
