Community training program held at Bishnupur

BISHNUPUR, March 12: A three-day sports meet for disabled organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in association with Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) organised was inaugurated today at Bishnupur district headquarters.

A Community Coaches Training Program was also held today as part of the sports meet today.

During the function, District Youth Affairs and Sport Officer A Jugol Singh, District Social Welfare Officer of the district Arambam Kameshwar and area director of SOB Dr M Yedhachadra attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Giving the key note address, secretary of the Society for Disabled Persons Kumbi N Iboton Singh adverted that the sports program of the differently abled persons has been organised so that disabled persons could have the chance to expose their potential and also make them healthy.

The chief guest of the function A Jugol Singh wished the sports meet be successful.

In his presidential speech, A Kameshwar Singh stated that altogether 150 disabled players will take part in the sports meet on the second and third day. And prior to the two-day sports meet, 150 teachers of the SSA, NGO representatives and 50 other officials will be trained.

He also added that the winners of the district level sports meet will attend the state level competition and the winners of the state level will then participate in the national level.

There is also every possibility of one of the players becoming an international figure, he said while taking the example of international swimmer Athouba from Lilong who has only one leg.

Athouba was trained in swimming by his father since his childhood in their pond and further narrated that Athouba then came to Khuman Lampak for further guidance from the subject experts. Athouba then got many medals in international competition, Kameshwar added.
