CPI (M) condoles demise of N Nripen Singh

IMPHAL, March 22: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Committee on Friday held a condolence meeting at its Paona Bazar office on the sudden demise of Nongmaithem Nripen Singh of Yaiskul Imphal.

A press release said that Nongmaithem Nripen Singh, who was a long time member of the Manipur State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), expired on March 21, 2014 at his residence at the age of 86 years. He left his wife Jamini Devi and three sons and one daughter behind, it said.

The release added that Nripen was a follower of Hijam Irawat Singh and also the former secretary of Manipuri Students Federation which was founded by Hijam Irawat and further continued that he was arrested by the police under Defence of India Act and lodged to jail.

While he was students’ leader, he participated at the first national conference of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) in 1970 held at Trivandrum in Kerala along with 10 delegates, it said in the press release and further continued that after returning from Trivandrum, establishment for SFI in Manipur took its root.

During the meeting, the CPI (M) Manipur State Committee observed two minutes silent in respect of the departed leader and also shared the intense sorrow of the family members, it said.
