CSOs visit ambush site

IMPHAL, March 12: Following the ambush on a convoy of the 24 Assam Rifles by suspected UGs at Kambang Khullen under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel District yesterday, a team of state civil organizations and media persons led by Chandel Naga People`s Organization visited the village of Kambang Khullen and interacted with the villagers today.

During the visit, the team made an inspection of the site where the incident occurred which was just few metres away from the village. Thereafter, the team met the villagers and interacted with them.

While interacting with the visiting team, Ch Morung, a villager said that the villagers ran into the forest and stayed there throughout the night fearing the reprisal from the Assam Rifles.

He said, they returned home this morning only.

However, the Assam Rifles did not mete out any torture to the villagers in the aftermath of the incident, he said.

While speaking to the media persons, Ws Kanral Anal, president of Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO) said the incident happened much close to the village and it can be assumed that it happened within the village.

While strongly condemning the concerned organisation who are carrying out of such attacks in the village where peace loving peoples inhabit; he also appealed to the organisation not to repeat such acts in the future and disturb the peace and tranquillity of the village.

He also thanked the Commanding Officer of 24 Assam Rifles and its personnel for not torturing the innocent villagers and restraining themselves after the incident which left their personnel dead and injured.

And he also appealed to all the other security forces to take an example of the Assam Rifles who restrain themselves from torturing the innocent villagers after encountering with UGs.

During the interaction with the villagers, Maring Uparap Assembly president M Moses, All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO) Chandel District president Lalam Mate and L Bliss, president Naga Women Union Chandel also strongly condemned the concerned organisation for carrying out such attack very close to the village and added that the ambush created panic to the helpless women and children of the village.

The visit was also accompanied by Th Angdun Maring, vice-president of Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation, M Wontimla president of Rural Peoples Federation, Angkhong Saka vice-president of Maring Uparap Assembly, K Marigol Social and Culture Secretary of United Naga Council, Toshelpha president of Maring Napuiya Yinglam, N Shongshir president of Bujuur Angchung Puh and L Givson vice-president of Maring students Union.
