IMPHAL, March 13: Eight office bearers of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur were arrested by the police near the BJP office.
DESAM vice-president Thoithoi said: “DESAM president M Angamba, secretary of organisation co-ordination Y Yaiphaba, deputy secretary of organisation co-ordination O Shital, deputy secretary of games and sports Devdutta Sharma, deputy secretary of finance O Premjit, deputy secretary of finance, Imphal West Mangijao, secretary of general Wangoi Zonal Council KC James and executive member of the DESAM Head office Surjit Meitei were arrested by the police.”
Stating that the eight members were caught around 2.30 pm in front of the BJP office, he reminded that the students’ body had already appealed in the past that the secretary of Board of Secondary Education Manipur shouldn’t be put in charge.
“ Rajmohon retired on 28th February and his retirement was declared on a press release but the secretary was still there in the board,” he said.
He said that the eight members were caught in front of the BJP office for closing the shutter. “Whatever we did were within the ambits of law as we were demanding the secretary of the board.”
He asked the police to release its eights members within 24 hours and the government should appoint a new secretary as soon as possible.
He also asked the concerned ministers to not extend the age of officials and not to repeat it again.
