Education Minister to crack whip on CBSE schools

IMPHAL, March 6: The alleged leakage of the Physics question paper of the All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education one day in advance has put all the CBSE recognised schools under the state government’s scanner. The state government is not only gravely concerned about the unfortunate development but is formulating a plan to check the activities of these schools.

A meeting attended by chairman of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, Dr Hamom Naba Singh, secretary of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, Sarangajit Khundrakpam, and its chairman, Potshangbam Dhanakumar, and various educationists was convened by education minister Moirangthem Okendra at his office chambers to take stock of the conditions of the CBSE affiliated schools and its maintainence.

During the meeting, the issue of how during the secondary exam over the last few years, many cases of malpractices and unruly behaviour by the students have been reported from many quarters including student bodies’ were discussed. The issue of how CBSE affiliated schools instead of producing quality students are indulging in unfair activities to promote students who have failed in their BOSEM and COHSEM exam was also discussed.

A policy will be formulated to look after all the CBSE affiliated schools in the state. After a cabinet decision, even those schools that are recognised by the central board will be re-looked. Those schools which are not properly maintained will most probably see their CBSE recognitions revoked, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendra said.

On the question of other ongoing exam, the education minister said as per the BOSEM and COHSEM exams are concerned, the question papers are put under a double lock system in Police stations. But as far as the CBSE exam is concerned, no intimations from the central board were given to the state government for the strict conduct of the exam. Now, they are facing the consequences of not taking the state government into confidence and repenting. The state government will not remain silent on this matter. Not only will these bogus CBSE schools be checked but concerned CBSE officials will be sent a written complaint.

In a latter development, the education minister has held a telephonic conversation with the CBSE chairman Vinit Joshi informing him about the leaked physics paper. He also informed the media that a formal letter has been sent to the CBSE chairman.
