Educational loan provided to BPL students

IMPHAL, March 2:  A scheme to provide educational loans to students from BPL families was launched in connection with the 23rd annual meet of Self Employment Voluntary Association (SEVA), Manipur on Sunday at Lamyanba Shanglen under the theme “join hands with us and get women’s empowerment for financial freedom through the SEVA way.”

Speaking at the function, BJP state unit’s president Th Chaoba said that the state which didn’t have good governance can be converted to a better state through good governance that would ultimately bring development.

He further stated that the state is facing various problems in its education system, roads, health services, drinking water, power which need to give emphasis to make effective for the public.

The roles taken by SEVA to improve the economic status of the poor people are remarkable. The state has a huge number of people living under poverty line, he added.

Hijam Babita, a member of a self help group, said that their self help group, Ideal self help group, was established in August 15, 2010 with 11 members under the assistance of SEVA and has been a success.

“In 2011, we started producing dish washing liquid and detergent which was the first step towards the success of our self help group.  We later signed a contract with Classic Hotel to provide our dishwashing products and our income has increased,” she said, and appealed to all the self help group to work hard, make a better society and improve their socio economic status.
