IMPHAL, March 24: Unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of Sangaiyumpham Part I gram panchayat ward number 9 member Md Ramijuddin around 12.30am during the intervening night of March 23-24.
The grenade exploded inside the residential compound injuring a dog and damaging walls of the residence at Sangaiyumphal Part I Mairel village.
The grenade fall near the veranda, informed locals.
Addl SP Thoubal (ops) Dr M Ibomcha came and took stock of the situation and recovered the grenade’s lever and pin.
Speaking to media persons, the member said he had received monetary demands through the phone from two individuals who identified themselves as Mangal and Dilip of KCP (Noyon group). But he had not paid the demand.
Meanwhile, locals staged a sit in protest at the locality decrying the attack.
