Grenades lobbed, none injured

IMPHAL, March 12: A grenade lobbed at the residence of a rice dealer at Khurai exploded today leaving a parked Santro car partly damaged.

Suspected underground militants lobbed a grenade at the residence of rice dealer Kh Sanju of Khurai Chingabam Leirak Thingom Leikai at around 10.45 pm yesterday under Porompat Police Station.

A Santro car park inside the compound was partly damage though there is no report of any human casualties. Soon after the blast a police team rushed to the spot and inspected the blast site.

Meanwhile, suspected militants had also hurled a hand grenade at the residential courtyard of executive engineer Public Works Department Jiribam circle Pukrambam Mani of Thamnapokpi Awang Leikai under Moirang Police Station last night.

The bomb however, failed to explode.

Later the same night, around 10, a team of Moirang police rushed to the spot and safely picked up the bomb which was found lying with the lever still there. The police safely detonated the bomb at a nearby paddy field.

Moirang police have also taken up a case regarding the incident under the FIR number19 (3) 2014 Moirang Police Station under section 4 A (II) explosive substance act.

Meanwhile, according to a late night report, unidentified miscreants lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of a saw-mill owner at Moirang Panshang under Moirang Police Station around 7pm today.

Though the grenade exploded inside the courtyard of Khuman Robin, 44, son of (L) Brajamohan, there were no injuries.
