IMPHAL, March 30: In a press meet at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Prof N Tombi, Vice-Chancellor of JNMDA said that the Diamond Jubilee celebration will start form 1st April and the Inauguration function will be from 1st April to 4th April.
He said that the Vice-President of India M Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the function on Aril 2. JNMDA still follows the earliest form of guru sishya tradition in the state. India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru had opened the dance academy after watching a performance of Ras Leela.
The academy is under Sangeet Natak Academy and the state government has looked after it. He appealed the government to add more classes for dance and performing arts and the government should put it in the International level so students from abroad can join, he added.
He said that the Governor, Chief Minister and Work Minister were supportive in repairing the Academy.
