Huge cache of arms seized in Thoubal

IMPHAL, March 28: In a significant development, combined forces comprising of Thoubal district police commandos and 22 Assam Rifles busted militant hideout and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions in a counter insurgency operation conducted in Thoubal district.

A statement released by the PRO of Police, S Gautum Singh, MPS SP/NAB, the successful operation was led by additional SP (Ops) today.

It said that the combined team launched a major search operation in the vicinity of Thoubal Khong, Khoidum Pat near Wabagai Tera Pishak, acting on information about the presence of valley based UG hide out.

After having busted the hideout the team reportedly recovered assorted weapons from the site, it said.

The recovered weapons include a Lathode Gun (M-79), one AK 56 Rifle (Chinese made), one M-16 Rifle (USA made), 35 live ammunitions of AK series Rifles, 12 live ammunitions of M-16, 107 live ammunitions and 13 fired cartridges of 7.62mm SLR (G3), two magazines of AK, one Magazine of M-16, 9 numbers of explosive (weighing 50 gms each), 83 numbers of detonators (No.27), 4 numbers of electronic detonator (No.33), 46 numbers (weighing 125gms each) of Gelatin, 2 numbers of (.03 metres each) of safety cords and one radio ser Icom IC-V8.

It said that a case has been registered at Kakching police station and further follow up investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, the Imphal west district police commandos reportedly arrested three active members of the proscribed KYKL militant and recovered arms and ammunitions in separate incident.

A statement issued by the PRO of Police, S Gautum Singh, MPS SP/NAB, said that the KYKL members were arrested on March 26

They have been identified as one Thangjam Basanta Singh alias Abu, 46, son of late Th Shyamkishor Singh of Sagolband Thangjam Leikrak, Haobam Sunil alias Boy, 52, son of late H Ibochou Singh of Chingamathak Nameirakpam Leikai and Tongbram Geetkumar alias Babu Singh, 44, son of T Gouramani Singh of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai.

It said that Basanta was arrested during a search operation conducted at Sagolband Thanjam Leirak and recovered five mobile handsets from his possession.

Meanwhile, Sunil and Geetkumar were reportedly arrested from his residence the same day. It said that one 9 mm pistol along with one magazine, 12 live ammunitions from Sunil.

In separate incident, the police team of NAB-PS under the supervision of SP NAB detected 200 kgs of Contraband Ganja from an auto Rikshaw bearing registration number MN01R-5843 at Yainganpokpi yesterday, said the statement.

It claimed that two individual who were carrying the Ganja, identified as Chandam Amarjeet Singh alias Ten, 30 years, son of Ch Manimohan Singh of Saijang Makha Leikai and Regent Tangkhul alias Rajen, 52 years, son of late Akhap Tangkhul of Tuinem Village.

The police team reportedly seized Ganja along with a mobile phone, RC book and the auto.

A case has been registered at Narcotics and Affairs of Border Police station and investigation is going on, it further said.
