Indira to contest LS poll as independent candidate

IMPHAL, March 14: After her resignation from the BJP, accusing the party of nepotism, Oinam Indira today declared that she will fight the 16th Lok Sabha election as an Independent candidate in the Inner Parliamentary constituency. This was declared today at a function held at Lamyanba Shanglen along with her supporters.

Yumkhaibam Manihar, president of Ibudhou Thanjing Mandol Committee Moirang declared Oinam Indira as Independent candidate for Inner constituency. Leaders from 32 Assembly segments of the Inner Parliamentary constituency were present at the function.

Oinam Indira pledged that she will fight for the cause of women. She said people is her party, and women are her strength. Manipur has seen two Nupi Lans, the coming Lok Sabha election will be the third one, she said.

Till now women’s representation from the Inner Parliamentary constituency has been nil in spite of 438000 women voters present, she said.

The crusader against AFSPA, Irom Sharmila’s demand for its repeal has been neglected because she is a women and the male representatives do not take her seriously, she continued.

Had she been a man, the goal to remove the Act would have been achieved, Indira observed.

Indira further asserted that women and youth is her priority, corruption should be rooted out and poverty is a serious problem that should be addressed properly. There are around 3 lacs artisans in the state, till now there has been no proper policy for their welfare and advancement from the govt.

RK Rajendro, former Member of Human Right Commission, was also present in the function.
