JAC reaffirms demand for arrest of rapist

IMPHAL, March 28 (NNN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the rape of a 13 years old school girl at Leitanpok in Thoubal district of Manipur on Februray 18 has urged the concern authority to immediately arrest the the alleged rapist, Md. Muhi, who is also from Kiyam Leitanpok and a close relative of the victim.

Even after more than a month has passed since the incident, no developments have been seen from the concern police authority to arrest the culprit involved in the crime. As such, the JAC along with civil society organizations has resolved to take up serious steps if necessary actions are not taken up immediately, maintained Md. Afzal Khan, convenor of the JAC during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here today.

An FIR was already filed by the family of the victim at Thoubal Police Station on February 21 but no actions have been taken up by the police to arrest the culprit.

A meeting of various civil society and students’ organizations (UCM, NIPCO, AMSU, AMMGSU, DESAM, AMMSO, MASUM, AMMOCOC, PPF, KSA, Manipur and other local bodies) was held at Kiyam Leitanpok Idgah Makha in connection with the rape incident on February 25.
