Kidnapped merchant returns safely

LAMKA, March 21: A merchant of Lamka town, Nemichand Sharma, 53 son of Sagalmal Sharma who was allegedly kidnapped on March 18, 2014 managed to escape from his captors late last night.

He reportedly escaped from the Sangaikot area of Churachandpur.

Sources informed that the kidnapers/captors were allegedly a newly formed group Manipur People Liberation Army (MPRA) and not active in the area of occurrence.

Sources also informed that he was kidnapped by unidentified persons, while he was trying to close his shop for the day around 6pm and remains untraceable till date.

An FIR had also been filed at CCpur Police.

Organisations including the ZRO/ZRA, ZSF and CDSU had made appeals to the captors for the merchant’s safe release.

Yesterday, the chairman of ADCC Langkhanpau Guite and vice chairman Khaipau Haokip had also made similar appeals.

The chairman had said that the ADCC takes serious note of the kidnapping.

He had also expressed his desire that the UG’s who are signatories of SoO with the govt as well as the police should help in sorting out the problem and act on their capacity for the safe release of the victim

Meanwhile the secy, information and publication of the Zomi Reunification Organization (ZRO)/ZRA in a press statement said that the organization condemns the kidnapping of Nemichand.

“It’s an act of cowardice to kidnap an innocent civilian,” the ZRO/ZRA added.
