IMPHAL, March 9:  Lamminlien Gangte will fight the 16th Lok Sabha general election as the JD (U) candidate in the Outer Parliamentary contituency of Manipur.

This was stated by M Tombi, media co-ordinator of the left and secular alliance of 10 political parties of Manipur on Sunday.

Briefing the media at the hall of CPI Manipur state council, he said that the general meeting was convened by the left and secular alliance at the CPI office for deciding their common candidate in the outer Manipur constituency.

Representatives of at least seven political parties were present in the meeting. Representatives of the other three parties were unable to attend the meeting due to some unavoidable circumstances.

CPI (M)’s Santa, the convenor of the alliance Santa CPI (M) said that no candidates other than Lemminlien Gangte will contest the polls but all will support him.

JD (U) president M Tombi said that Lemminlien Gangte is JD (U)’s candidate but will also be the common candidate for the left and secular alliance in the 16th Lok Sabha election.

Elaborating that the coming Lok Sabha elections will be a difficult one because there will be no absolute majority in the polls. In the centre, the third front party consisting of four chief ministers, an ex-prime Minister, will be ruling. It will have ramifications in Manipur too.

The BJP has chances of coming to power at the centre. Many workers and crowd from far off places were brought for the Narendra Modi rallies by the BJP. In the state, BJP is conducting the same tactic.

The tactics will not work in the election, he said. JD (U) gives priority to issues of power, water and road in the coming elections.
