`Look East Policy boosting regional relation`

IMPHAL, March 23: India and South East Asia have consistently developed their relationship with the coming of the Look East policy and to make it stronger there is a need to have better relationship with other neighboring countries.

It was stated by Ambassador, Former Director General, Indian Council of World Affairs and Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Sudhir T Devare at a meeting with media persons at Hotel Imphal today. He is in the state to attend a conference on the role of North East India in India’s Look East Policy.

He further said North East has become the domestic dimension for the Look East Policy.

The relationship with Japan and Korea has subsequently improved and the bilateral trade has grown, he asserted and added that if relation between India and Myanmar is more strengthened, Manipur will be the best place because the Look East Policy is a bridge for the development and improving relationships with other countries.

A unit called Development Partnership Administration was set up under Ministry of External Affairs to study the policy, he said, and added despite being unable to initiate its process due to the election code of conduct, the process to set up the unit will resume again.
