One day brain storming session on animal genetic resources of Manipur state held

IMPHAL, March 5: A one day brain storming session on animal genetic resources of Manipur state, organized by the director of veterinary and animal husbandry services Manipur, was held at the Classic Hotel North AOC Imphal West today.

The function was inaugurated by agricultural and fisheries Minister MD Abdul Nasir and also as president, retr director vety and AH, S Joykumar Singh as guest of honour, and director of National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources Karnal, Haryana, Dr Arjava Sharma as president and director of vety and AH services Manipur Dr Saidokhum Joute as guest of honour.

During the function, Md Absul Nasir said there are several medicinal plants which remain yet to be explored.

Our state is a centre of diverse genes of several crops and a secondary centre for several economically important plants and animal species, he said and appealed for co-operation from the media to promote the awareness.

S Joykumar said that we have very distinct type of animal species like poly and awing dog or called Tangkhul dog.

He further made clear that need for the conservation of this kind of species.

During the technical session, Dr Arjavana Sharma explained about ‘an order view of animal genetic resources of India’ and said globalization, population, overgrazing are the major problems that we face.
