IMPHAL, March 3: The minister of Health and Family Welfare, Phungzathang Tonsing has on Monday laid the foundation stone for constructing Khwairakpam Krishnagopal Memorial Maternity Ward at the premises of the Primary Health Centre, Ningthoukhong.
Phungzathang Tonsing minister of Health and Family welfare, CADA and GAD, Govindas Konthoujam, minister of Commerce and Industries, Sericulture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Bishnupur DC Jason A Shimray, Bishnupur Chief Medical Officer Dr Ng Hemantakumar, Health Services Director Dr A Bijoy singh attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
During the function, minister Govindas expressed that K Gojendro Trust had been planning to build the Maternity Ward long before but could not be materialised due to unavailability of proper place and added that the ground floor will be finished within next financial year with an estimated cost of Rs. 2,20,59,000. He further elaborated that K Gojendro Trust has collected funds from public donation for the proposed maternity ward and the funds have been handed over to Construction Committee.
He further maintained that the maternity ward will have ground floor plus three storey which will be constructed with the estimated cost of Rs. 8,82,32,800 and appealed to all concerned organisations not to disturb in the development work. He also sought cooperation and support from the local people while bringing development in the district.
Phungzathang Tonsing appreciated the idea of constructing maternity ward with public donation in Bishnupur district and added that the location is proper place. Mentioning the mother mortality rate, he conveyed that Manipur stood second on mother mortality rate in child birth while Goa listed at first in the national mother mortality index. He also made a general appeal to support the endeavour so that development could be flourished in the state.
