`Punish all perpetrators of CAW` legal awareness

IMPHAL, March 11: The Manipur State Commission for Women in collaboration with the College of Social Work organized a two-day legal awareness program under the sponsorship of National Commission of Women, New Delhi which was held at Lainingthou Khamlangba Shanglen, Uripok Polem Leikai today.

Speaking at the awareness function chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women, Dr L Ibetombi Devi said that the crime rate against women have seen a rise in the state since many years back.

Demanding punishment of all those perpetrators at the earliest, she further called upon the authorities concerned to take speedy process.

Legal advisor, Meghachandra Sharma said that although a complete end to violence against women cannot be brought, it can be checked, for which people needs proper understanding of the issue.

He further said that Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 has been enacted which will render the rights of the women given by the Indian Constitution.

He said that in the society women play and important role, for which women needs proper safeguarding.

Meanwhile, he continued that domestic violence is witnessed in almost all families and such domestic violence is mainly due to financial problems, early marriage, dowry etc.

He expressed that women must not stay silent and there is law to provide them with justice.
