RPF claims hand in AR ambush

IMPHAL, March 13: A statement of the proscribed outfit Revolutionary People’s Front signed by its secretary publicity, Roben Khuman has claimed the March 11, 2014 attack on a convoy of the 24th Assam Rifles.

The statement said the attack was carried out under “Operation Leopard” by a select group of cadres from the PLA’s units, departments, stations around 2pm of March 11 on a team of the 24th Assam Rifles.

On receiving information that an AR CO led team will be moving around Sita village of Chandel district under Tengoupal police station, the combined team of the outfit lay in wait near Kambang Khullen, informed the statement. It also said that the team used explosions, RPG, M-79 and assault rifles in the attack.

During the 15 minute long attack, the team also managed to recover several arms and ammunitions, including one AK-47, one AR-M1F41, three magazines, 87 live bullets, one magazine pouch, one INSAS LMG, one INSAS rifle with two magazines and 48 live rounds and a Motorola wireless set , it claimed.

The team along with the recovered items have reached the PLA’s ghq, it said.

It also said that the RPF being a strategic partner “congratulate the CPI (Maoist)” on its successful conduct of an attack on an ROP team on March 11 at Sukma district, Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, the War Office of the outfit had held a reception ceremony of the combined team of the PLA units, departments, stations and the party’s departments, it said.
