School van attacked, drivers accuse MSF

IMPHAL, March 6: Two unidentified miscreants sped away on a Honda Activa after pelting stones at school vans parked outside the Little Flower School, Sangaiprou today, damaging the front windshield of one of the vans bearing registration number MN1K-1218.

Van drivers suspecting the two to be volunteers of the student body Manipuri Students Federation, later in the evening stormed the office of the student body and found it locked.

The incident occurred around 11.40am under Singjamei police.

Little Flower School Students’ Transporters Union, president L Bimol told media persons at the incident site that the transporters have lodge a complaint with the concerned SIngjamei police regarding the attack.

He said the union supported by the All Manipur School Students’ Transporters Association strongly condemn the incident, and further alleged the Manipuri Students’ Federation of carrying out the unwarranted attack.

In the evening of March 4 last around 7.30pm, there was a phone call from an individual who identified himself as a volunteer of the MSF and asked him against transporting students of the Little Flower School, he said.

Following that the transporters stopped transportation on March 5, however, yesterday evening the union and the association received pressure from the students and their guardians that there were normal classes continued yesterday even though the transporters had ceased their services, he asserted.

Following the pressure from the parents and guardians, the vans resumed their service today.

This morning around six youth who identified themselves as MSF volunteers came to the van drivers and threatened them against resuming their service, he said.

The suspected student volunteers left after warning them to take responsibility of any consequence arising out of their resumption of service, he alleged.

Following the warning, the union and association members were meeting the school authorities when two youth in Honda Activa pelted bricks at one of the vans’ parked outside the school gate breaking the front windshield and sped away, he recounted.

The transporter bodies will call a meeting in this regard and take a decision on their course of action, he said.

In the evening a large number of school van drivers stormed the office of the MSF at Sega but found the office locked.

Meanwhile, a statement of the Little Flower School Students’ Transporters Union has said that the body will not remained silent in case such unwarranted vandalism causing a fear psychosis among the students and the van drivers or any ban on its services due to an issue between the Manipuri Students Federation and the school authorities of the Little Flower School.

The student body on the other hand has said in a statement that noticing irregularities in the admission process of missionary schools in the state, it had as its first step put a public curfew on Little Flower School since March 5.

The statement signed by its jt secy Romeo Keisham appealed to all against breaching the ban.

It warned the school authorities to shut down the school and students should not attend school.

The statement also appealed to the transporters to cease their service.
