IMPHAL, March 26: Altogether 18 candidates including a woman, are in the fray for the two Parliamentary constituencies in manipur, elections for which will be held in two phases.

The first phase on April 9 will witness the Schedule Tribe Reserved Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency go to polls, while the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency will go to polls on April 17.

All eight candidates who had filed their nominations for the Inner seat recieved clearing from the Returning Officer today during the scrutiny of the nominations conducted today. However, with the date for withdrawal of candidature stated for March 29, there is chances that the number of candidates for the inner seat would decrease.

The scrutiny of eight candidates of inner Manipur Parliamentary seat was conducted at DC office in Lamphel on Thursday morning in the presence of the Returning Officer (RO) of inner constituency seat, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West K Radhakumar.

The RO has announced that all the eight candidates have cleared the scrutiny successfully and after the day of withdrawal of candidature on March 29, how many from the eight will remain in fray for the inner Seat will be ascertained.

He told the media that the difference of this year’s election from the last election is the increase in number of polling stations to 509 and the involvement of polling personnel might increase. He appealed the people and political parties to conduct free and fair election in the state.

Counting of polls for the whole of India will start on May 16 and the whole process of election shall be completed on or before May 28.
