KANGPOKPI, March 11: The skeletal remains found yesterday evening inside Mayangkhang jungle near Taphou Kuki in Senapati district by some students of Mt. Everest College, Senapati who were on a picnic party has been retrieved this morning by Senapati Police and identified as that of Hengbung brick factory labourer.
A team of Senapati police and owner of Hengbung brick factory including the deceased’s family members went to the spot this morning where the skeletal remains was found.
Family members identified the deceased as that of Chhatrajit Kangujam, a labourer in the brick factory located at Hengbung who went missing since November 18 last year through the diary and clothes found near the skeletal.
The skeletal remains lay upside down in between a rock in the jungle and there is no possibility of murder said the police source and expressed the cause of death to be suspected unnatural death.
Hengbung brick factory proprietor Paojalam Kipgen lodged a missing report at Senapati Police Station on November 18, 2013 stating that one of his labourer Chhatrajit Kangujam, 65 of Taobungkhok Awang Leikai, Imphal West has been found missing since November 18 early morning as per the record available at Senapati Police Station.
Since then a massive search was on and a team of Senapati police had been pressed into service to find the missing person but to no avail, added the police source.
Members of the brick factory where Chhatrajit Kangujam worked also joined the massive search in their own capacity but that also turned futile till yesterday.
Chhatrajit’s sister accompanied by his son expressed discontentment over the sticky action initiated by the Senapati Police and left the skeletal remained at the station to receive only after post mortem.
In the meantime Senapati Police registered Unnatural Death case today under Section 174 CrPC in the case.
The skeletal remained will be taken to Imphal tomorrow for post mortem.
