SoO cadres can vote through postal ballot: jt CEO

IMPHAL, March 15: The Chief Electoral Officer is in the process of completing required documentation to be presented to the Election Commission of India for SoO cadres staying at designated camp in the state. This is to facilitate them to cast their vote through postal ballots, said N Praveen, Joint chief Electoral Officer of Manipur.

He said this at the one day workshop on the role of public broadcaster in election with reference to Lok Sabha 2014, organised by the Regional News Unit of All India Radio, Imphal and Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, at the Manipur press club today.

In reply to a question posed by a participant, N Praveen said that in the last general assembly election 2012, the SoO cadres were allowed to cast their vote through postal ballot papers. This Parliamentary election must also allow then as well.

In the inaugural session of the workshop, Chief Guest of the function O Nabakishore, Chief Electoral Officer Manipur said that the role of the Media is immense in the state. He urged the media persons to take part in election debates and Political analysis actively. It would help in creating awareness to the people.

BB Sharma chaired the technical session. N Praveen, Joint ECO Manipur, AK Khogen Head of Office, DDK Imphal, Brojendro Ningomba Editor-in-chief ISTV News and Khogendro Khondram, Editor Sangai Express (Manipuri) present their papers.

N Praveen in his presentation maintained that CEO always face problem while releasing new electoral rolls. MLAs and ministers tend to create hindrance with their request to include more names in the list. There will be a special camp on electoral roll on March 16 for the public. He sought wholesome participation from the public to make it a success.
