SPG for Rahul`s visit to reach Imphal today

IMPHAL March 15: Special Protection Group (SPG) team will reach Imphal today prior to Rahul Gandhi’s visit, who is the Vice-President of All India Congress Committee, to Imphal on March 19, said Gaikhangam President, MPCC.

In a press meet convened at the Congress Bhawan today, Gaikhangam said this was in view of Rahul Gandhi’ Visit to Imphal in connection with the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha Election 2014.

Luginho Faleiro, Northeast in-charge of the party will also accompany Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile NNN adds: AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi after addressing the people in Mizoram, will arrive Manipur on the same day.

Gandhi will then address the people at Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground in Thoubal district which is the border area of Outer and Inner Parliamentary constituencies of Manipur.

Talking to reporters today at Congress Bhavan here, chief minister Ibobi Singh said preparations are underway at Wangjing Kodompokpi with a ministerial team supervising the work. Over 60 thousand people are expected to attend the event, said Ibobi. He also said 30,000 chairs will be arranged for the event. The rest will sit on the carpets, he added.

Ibobi Singh then said AICC secretary Dr Vidyalakhsmi Sadho will also arrived at Imphal tomorrow in connection with Rahul’s visit.

Meanwhile, in connection with Gandhi’s visit to Manipur and also a consultative meeting of the Congress party was held at Congress Bhavan here this afternoon. CLP members of the party, the two sitting MPs, executive members of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, chairmen and vice chairmen of Autonomous District Councils, MLAs and MPCC officials had a joint meeting today discussing the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and the visit of Rahul Gandhi to Manipur.
