Student rusticated for allegedly assualting teacher

IMPHAL, March 25: A student of the ITI Imphal, Takyel reportedly assaulted a lady teacher of the institute this afternoon.

The accused student has been identified as Leimapokpam Jhalajit Singh, 20, son of L Kokindro Singh of Maibam Leikai Liwa Road.

Soon after the incident, Jhalajit was grabbed by the fellow ITI students and handed over to Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM).

Speaking to media persons, DESAM’s president, Moirangthem Angamba, revealed that the incident had occurred around 12.30 this afternoon.

He continued that Jhalajit approached the teacher while she was alone inside the classroom and asked questions on book related with electronics subject. (The lady teacher is said to be teacher of electronics).

Without any warning Jhalajit reportedly attempted to strangle the teacher following which she fled the scene and reported it to the ITI authority.

Reacting on the incident, Angamba appealed to the authority concerned the institute to take up appropriate action against the errant student.

Meanwhile, the principal of the said institute, P Robindro, who was also present during the press conference, announced that the said student has been rusticated.

Leimapokpam Jhaljit Singh refused to give answer to any query raised by the media persons. Later he was handed over to Lamphel police station.
