`Subscribers charged for undelivered newspapers`

IMPHAL, March 2: There are some instances in which newspaper hawkers or distributers charged subscribers even for those days in which no newspapers were delivered.

This was stated in a press release by A Mobi, president of the Editors Guild of Manipur.

“It has come to our notice that some hawkers or distributers made bills by including charges of those days in which newspapers were not delivered. However, those hawkers operating outside of Imphal who distributed newspapers by collecting it from a secondary source can add reasonable extra charges in their bills,” it was stated in the press release.

“Hawkers buy newspapers on a 33% commission from the publishing offices. They are not charged for those days in which newspapers were not published or collected from the office,” it further stated.

The president of the Editors Guild appealed to all the news hawkers to cease such practices. He also appealed all the subscribers to check whether the newspaper bill they received tally with the number of papers they were delivered.
