Tenth Manipur State Art Exposition held

IMPHAL, March 26: Manipur State Kala Akademi under the aegis of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi organised the Tenth Manipur State Art Exposition at Manipur State Art Gallery, Department of Art and Culture in Palace Compound on Wednesday.

Secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademi, Dr K Sobita Devi stated that the exhibition of 42 works by 34 artists including 24 pantings, nine sculptures, seven graphics and two drawings have considerable merit.

Sanajaoba Tenshuba was awarded in panting, Th Tulachandra Singh in sculpture, S Samuel and L Gandhi in graphic, N Rajesh Singh in drawing and they were all awarded Rs 10000 each with a certificate by the chief guest of the function, National Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee Th Tombi Singh.

Speaking at the function, Th Tombi Singh urged the artist to work on traditional paintings which is rare to witness in the state.

He elaborated that a well-known artist should have a sense of poetry, painting, music, drama, literature from which he can produce meaningful art. The artist must possess a feeling of aesthetics and spiritual.

He continued that in the states of Assam and Tripura the arts is developed but the state could not develop it even though the state have lots of skills in arts.

The state could not organise national exhibition of arts to showcase the artists of the state due to lack of various problems faced by the state, he asserted.

He opined that the state government must try to organise such kind of national exhibitions concerning the talented artist of the state which will also give a room to showcase their works.
