Th Meinya, Thangso Baite retain LS Cong tickets

IMPHAL, March 8: The Indian National Congress (INC), on Saturday has named its sitting MPs as their candidates for the upcoming 16th Lok Sabha Election.

The announcement was made late in the evening by the AICC. Thangso Baite and Thokchom Meinya were among the list of candidates announced by the AICC in their first phase.

With congress announcing its candidates, so far seven candidates are in the fray.

For BJP Professor Gangmumei Kamei, is contesting in the outer constituency while Dr RK Rajan in the inner constituency.

The All India Trinamool Congress had named former MP, Kim Gangte, as their candidate to contest in the outer constituency and Sarangthem Manaobi Singh, in the inner constituency.

The Left and Secular Alliance, formed by 10 political parties excluding BJP and Congress, so far named Dr Nara as their candidate to contest in the inner constituency and is likely to declare its candidate for outer constituency tomorrow.

At the same, the CPI-ML is also likely to announce its candidates tomorrow.

The state will go to first phase of poll (inner constituency) on April 9 and 17 for outer constituency and the election Model code of conduct came into immediate effect since the announcement for the poll.

As such the ECI has scheduled last date for filing of nomination for inner constituency election on March 26 followed by scrutiny on the next day (March 27).

The last day for withdrawal of candidature has been scheduled on March 29, counting of votes on May 16 and the election is set to complete on May 28.
