Thoubal District Health Mela kicks off at Tekcham

IMPHAL, March 29: The two day long Thoubal District Health Mela was kicked off on Saturday at Tekcham High School, Khongjom in Thoubal district. The health Mela was organised by District Health Society under the sponsor of National Rural Health Mission. The health Mela will be concluded on Sunday.

During the inaugural function, the mission Director of State Health Society Dr O Ibomcha Singh, Chief Medical Officer of the district Dr S Saratkumar Singh and Medical Superintendent of the Thoubal Hospital & Secretary of the School Management Committee of the Tekcham High School attended as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

While delivering his speech as chief guest, Dr O Ibomcha Singh mentioned the objective of organising the health Mela for outreaching health care services free of cost to the far flung rural areas of the district and further continued that specialist Doctors of every medical subjects will be available during the health Mela. He also said that the facilities of clinical lab, x-ray, ultra sound etc will also be provided to the needy patients.

Conveying the importance of the mission, the health director said that the National Rural Health Mission is now became National Health Mission. He further continued that child mortality rate at birth has been decreased dramatically at the rate of 1% and added that Manipur and Goa got national awards for child mortality. All this is possible with the dedicated efforts of the medical professional of the state and also of the sacrifice rendered by the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), he added and further sought cooperation from them all.

He also made an appeal to do child delivery at the nearest hospital by not opting child delivery at home and added that the government has recently introduced RBSK scheme which provides health care facilities to a child up to the age of 19 years so as to have a disease free individual.

The scheme will soon implemented in the district, Dr Ibomcha stated and continued that the government of Manipur has reimbursed a portion of the amount by introducing Manipur State Illness Fund. He also mentioned of the lack of awareness on the provision of the government schemes through which various facilities has been providing to general public, for which he appealed the gathering to remain aware of the government schemes. He further said that the program of weekly iron folic supplementation has been introduced recently so as to compensate the iron folic deficiency.

While delivering his key note address of the health Mela, Th Rishikesh said that the Health Mela is organising with theme of Better Health For Better Society.
