By R Lester Makang

UKHRUL, March 10: With the list of polling stations for the three assembly constituencies of the district already out, the Ukhrul Election Department is on a war footing to meet the necessary requirements for successful conduct of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the district.

In an interaction with this IFP correspondent at his office on Monday, District Election Officer AS Innocence said that preparations for the poll are already in full swing in the district, before adding that they are now working to allocate vehicles, man power et al so that all the election officials reach their respective polling stations in time.

“We are also making hectic arrangements for the EVM training which is going to be conducted very soon,” he said. Stating that there are many polling stations in remote areas which are not accessible in a day, Innocence said, “We are planning to despatch official teams for those polling stations like Khayang, Chamu etc. on April 6 for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary poll which is slated for April 9.”

Of the three assembly constituencies, 45-Chingai (ST) AC has 62 polling stations and 44-Ukhrul (ST) AC has 61 polling stations while 70 polling stations have been opened for 43-Phungyar (ST) Assembly Constituency.

All the three ACs of the district fall under II-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency under provisions of Section 25 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Meanwhile, a large number of people are seen thronging the election office for various purposes like checking of electoral list, filling forms for correction and application for EPIC cards.

As part of the campaign for one-hundred per cent inclusion of voters in the electoral roll, a Special Electoral Camp was held on March 9 last and another camp will be held at all the polling stations of the district on March 12, the district electoral officer further informed.
