IMPHAL, March 26: In a shocking incident of family quarrel between a man and his wife, the man was pierced to death by his wife with a bamboo.
Following the incident, an angry mob assaulted the wife leaving her in a critical condition.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 9:30 am at Icham Khunou Maning Leirak under Yairipok police station in Thoubal district.
The man has been identified as Thokchom Brojen Singh, 43, son of (L) Birchand of Icham Khunou Maning Leirak and his wife as Inao, 39.
Brojen Singh was a can and bamboo artisan while his wife Inao did small time business.
Local sources said that the people of the locality heard the quarrelling between the couple at around 9:30 in the morning on Wednesday. However, people did pay much attention as such verbal exchanges had been witnessed earlier also.
In the mean time, people of the locality sensed an unusual nature on the part of Inao Devi who recharged her mobile phone and made a frequent phone call following which Inao shouted for help at around 11:30 am. Then people begun to gather there and found that Brojen was laying death on the veranda of his house.
In such situation, Inao alarmed the locals not to progress towards her holding a knife in her hand and ran inside her house locking it behind her. However, people of the locality broke the door and interrogated her.
Replying to the questions of the mob, Inao narrated the sequence of the events saying that her husband was trying to bring two kilogram of rice so that he could exchange it with liquor following which she tried to stop him. As the disagreement increased, she pierced her husband with a bamboo following which her husband Brojen died on the spot.
Unsatisfied with statement of Inao Devi, the mob began beating Inao Devi following which she laid still near the body of her husband.
Later on, a police team arrived on the spot at around 1 pm and found that the woman was alive. She was then rushed to RIMS hospital and the death body of Brojen was deposited to JNIMS morgue. The police file registered a case in the matter by collecting the bamboo which was used in the murder.
The couple has three children.
