Woman says `assaulter` arrested

IMPHAL, March 10: A 30 year old woman from Leimaram Mamang Leikai has alleged that she was assaulted by a person from a neighbouring locality brandishing a gun on March 7.

The man has been arrested the next day by the concerned Nambol police, she added

Speaking to media persons today at the Manipur Press Conference, the woman who identified herself as Ninthoujam (o) Ibemchoubi Devi, wife of Tomba of Leimaram Mamang Leikai alleged that on March 7 around 8.30pm, Ningthoujam Biren, 56, son of (L) Tomaljao of Leimaram Awang Leikai who works as a supervisor at the DIC, Lamphel came and asked her to open the door, demanding the whereabouts of her husband.

At the time, her husband was absent, while other neighbours were out to watch the local laiharaoba, she said.

When she replied that her husband was not present, the accused forcefully entered holding a long firearm and started searching inside her house for her husband.

Then he hit her with the barrel of the gun and also kicked several times on her chest following which she entered into a confrontation with the assailant for some minutes, she continued.

She then shouted for help following which Biren left in a hurry, the woman alleged.

Meanwhile, the family filed a complaint with the Nambol Police the same day and the accused was arrested the next day and an FIR taken up against him, she continued.

She further alleged that after the arrest of the man, her family and supporters have been repeatedly threatened by the family members of the accused.

She has also appealed to the state CSOs, NGOs to support her family.
