Youths` body demand further age relaxation

IMPHAL, March 15: The Manipur State Council All India Youth Federation has asked the government to review its decision of fixing the age of eligibility for general candidates to 38, for OBC candidates to 41 and for SC/ST candidates to 43 while applying for government jobs in the state.

The federation has stated that sustained agitation which mounted pressure on the government resulted in so many jobseekers getting employed in the home and medical departments. Taking their demands further, the federation has submitted memorandums to the Personnel Division and the Chief Minister on November 28, 2007 and July 7, 2012 asking age relationships for job seekers in the state. Consequently, the government announced an age relaxation in which the age of eligibility were changed to 38 for general candidates, 41 for OBC candidates  and 43 for SC/ST candidates on March 4 this year under Article 309 of the Indian Constitution.

However, a press statement from the federation has demanded the government to fix the age relaxation on par with our neighbouring states like Mizoram, Tripura and other states such as Punjab, UP etc which have fixed the age of eligibility on April 1, 2012 to 40 for general candidates, 43 for OBC candidates and 45 for SC/ST candidates and review its decision.

The federation has also expressed its gratitude to the Chief Secretary in charge who gave assurance of considering their demand of postponing the last date of submission from 15 March to some other later date for many jobs under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by consulting with principal secretary of education Dr J Suresh Babu considering the many challenges that many OBC and SC/ST candidates have to face in getting certificates from their respective SDCs and SDOs who are busy preparing for the upcoming elections.
