ZRF cadres held with arms and letters: Police

IMPHAL, March 23: A commando unit of the Imphal West District Police while conducting a cordon and search operation at the National Games Village, Zone II on Saturday arrested four active members of the ZOmi Revolutionary Front, ZRF.

According to a statement of the PRO Police Department, on March 22, based on specific information regarding the presence of some UG elements, commando units of District Police Imphal West led by K Meghachandra Singh, addl SP (Ops)/ Imphal West including women police conducted a cordon and search operation at National Games Village, Zone-II.

During the operation, four active members of the ZRF, a constituent member of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) including its commander-in-chief namely Songlianlal Hangsing alias Lalpu, 52, son of Pumzanang Hangsing of St. Peter School Zone-Il, Game Village, Langol and three other cadres – Kamsuanlian Mantuang alias Michael, 39, son of Hangsuanthang Mantuang of Zoumunnuan, Churachandpur; Ginlalsiam Phiamphu alias Zonathan, 34, son of Zanchinlam  Phiamphu of P Kamdoveng, Churachandpur and Mawirousanga Guite, 25, son of Lianzo Guite of Mimbung Village, Champhai district, Mizoram were arrested.

Further according to the statement, one 7.65 pistol with two magazines and four live rounds of 7.65 ammunition, which were concealed inside a guitar (hollow) were recovered along with ten numbers of demand letters of ZRF, four signed by Lalpu Hangsing, the commander-in-chief and another six signed by L David, director (FIN) of ZRF.

One Honda Activa, smoke grey in colour bearing registration no MNO 1 D/8705, three mobile handsets and one camouflage trouser used by the cadres were also recovered and seized from their possession, it said. Investigation revealed that the seized arms and ammunition were used in kidnapping and extortion by the cadres of ZRF, it said.
